09/23/2010 MV Electrical are pleased to announce their new PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) service.
“New legislation brought in by the government means that all public facilities will have to get all portable electrical appliances tested on a regular bases” says company founder Mel Vallely. “We see this as a growth area and have bought state of the art equipment to test label and record the testing of equipment”.
PAT testing is a repeat (in service) of the manufacturers’ safety tests it ensures that equipment is safe and unlikely to cause accident.
Business's are required by law to have all their equipment PAT tested at regulated intervals PAT testing is regulated by the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.
Under this legislation, as of November 2007, companies, their directors and managers, have a duty of care to ensure that their electrical appliances do not pose a threat to the health and safety of employees, customers and members of the public who may use their appliances. This requirement is now covered by legislation under Statutory Instrument S.I. 299 (2007).
Under this new legislation duty of care obligations have been spelled out in greater detail than before and the penalties for non-compliance (defaulting) have been increased to include substantial fines and prison sentences for non compliant directors/managers.
